How to use Website Advertising |
Website and/or blog advertising can be an effective fundraising tool, especially in the case of organizations with a dedicated group of website visitors that share a common purpose.
There are 3 primary models to consider in starting an advertising fundraising effort:
- Direct advertising sales - offering specific banner and image ad placements on your site to companies for a per month, per click, or per impression price. This can be the most lucrative model, but also can be the most difficult to start and manage, as it relies on individual contracts with each prospective advertiser
- "Hosted" ad positioning - Google AdWords offers an innovative tool where you can place text ads throughout your content. These are targeted ads that you can tailor to your specific content, even limiting the actual advertisers that can use the function. This is the quickest setup, and since most of the programs are pay per click, you can quickly generate revenue from your motivated website visitors
- Affiliate marketing - thousands of retail companies have learned that they need to "be everywhere" to sell online, so they have created affiliate marketing programs. Basically, you create an account with some of these big name companies (stores you shop everyday) at places like Commission Junction and LinkShare. You place ads on your site from the companies that approve you, and every time someone buys something after clicking on one of those ads, you get a "commission" on the sale. This can be very lucrative, especially if you have active EBay'ers or Travelocity users.
